Women's & Gender Studies Minor

The women's & gender studies minor is an interdisciplinary course of study in which you will be introduced to hidden histories and complex social structures, confront injustice and oppression, and analyze the unique issues related to gender that exist in historical and modern contexts.

The WGS minor enables you to critically examine the social understandings of gender and the powerful role gender plays in families, personal relationships, communities (both local and global), education, work, the media, women's health, sexualities and more. With a WGS minor you will become equipped to analyze inequities and to initiate change.

Identify and investigate the intersections of gender, race, class and religion with gender experiences.
Take a variety of courses including Biology of Sex & Gender; Gender, Performance & Pop Culture; and Latina & Caribbean Women Writers.
Develop leadership skills in our Gender Issues in Leadership course.
Study abroad. In our Social Health Policy in Scandinavia program, you will explore policies that contribute to gender equity in countries where life satisfaction is high.
Examine gender issues from a Christian perspective and learn to articulate, support and critique feminist views in light of biblical and theological traditions.
Participate in WGS events including Breaking Boundaries: Sharing Wisdom from Women (an annual awards event for women), expert panels, film screenings and guest lectures.
