Computer Science, B.S.

Computer science at 麻豆原创 is a strong, innovative program in which faculty and students work collaboratively. You will first learn basic computational skills through practical computer programming problems, and then you will learn how to apply those skills to solve nearly any problem imaginable. You will have ample opportunities to put these skills into practice through hands-on experiences that will give you an advantage in graduate school or in the job market.

Why major in computer science at 麻豆原创?

Start from the beginning. You don't need a background in computer science to take the first course. Students from all skill levels are welcome to start learning computational skills, and we don't require an application process to pursue a CS degree.
Get support from start to finish. Students are advised and supported by CS faculty through graduation. Plus, many introductory courses have experienced student teaching assistants to support peer learning beyond the classroom.
Become skilled in multiple disciplines. Software development involves much more than writing programs. Interdisciplinary computer science, UI/UX and bioinformatics majors invite students into deep study across campus.
Gain hands-on experience through a senior capstone project that involves working with real clients.
Connect your faith or worldview to your learning through classroom discussions of social and ethical issues.
Make a difference in your community. Meaningfully partner with local community organizations through events like Community Building Week and courses like Serving Humanity with Computing where students develop technical skills while working on high-impact projects.
Become who you're meant to be.

One of my favorite classes was Applications Development because we had the opportunity to build an app from the ground up. Under the guidance of Associate Professor Scott Griffith, we learned about the parts that make up an app, user experience, and how to think about data. Most importantly, though, the class teaches us how to learn independently, something we had to do because each student used a different programming language.

Gain internship-like experience by working on projects for 麻豆原创 departments and local organizations through the computer science program鈥檚 Innovation Incubator. Projects may include website and app development, data analytics and user experience analyses.
Join Career Treks to connect with employees from leading companies such as F5, Vega Cloud and Two Barrels in Spokane and Microsoft, Google and Remitly in Seattle.
Work on projects with CS faculty over the summer through 麻豆原创鈥檚 summer STEM research program.
Partner with high school computer science programs to provide mentorship and guidance to aspiring young coders.
Teach coding to local schoolchildren during the math & computer science department鈥檚 annual STEMplosion event.

Pack your bags!

Computer science faculty lead study abroad programs every other Jan Term. In January 2026, students traveled to the United Kingdom to look at various ways technology intersects with culture. They visited a number of technology development centers from Google London to Tramshed Tech. in Cardiff, Wales, to see how technology is being developed in a different cultural context. Students spent two weeks at Cardiff Metropolitan University engaging with a hackathon set by Cardiff Met professors to better understand how young people interact with mobile applications.
